What’s holding these innovations back?
New materials and methods often face public opposition when implemented in real-life projects. This event addresses how to tackle common forms of resistance:
- NIMBY – “Not In My Backyard”: People may support sustainability in theory but oppose new developments near their homes.
- BANANA – “Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anyone”: A mindset that resists any change, even if it brings environmental or social benefits.
- CAVE – “Citizens Against Virtually Everything”: A broader opposition to innovation, often driven by fear, misinformation, or lack of trust.
The event will explore strategies to build public trust, communicate the benefits of recycled and digital materials, and create shared ownership of innovation through crowdsourcing, panel discussions, and crowdfunding.
