The first European platform for trading in used F-gases was launched in the Czech Republic

Retradeables is the first European platform for trading in used F-gases, which supports the circular use of refrigerants extracted from HVAC-R industrial equipment (cooling, heating, ventilation and refrigeration). The platform, based on the LIFE3R project and funded by the European Union, provides a cost-effective circulating economy of used F-gases and offers a sustainable alternative source for refrigerant supply. After launching in the Czech Republic, Retradeables is the only European online platform for the implementation of the circular economy of used refrigerants based on a market mechanism.

Support for a sustainable circular economy HVAC-R in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of the first to implement Retradeables, the first European platform to support the circular economy of refrigerants used. In line with European Union policy and their Green Agreement, the circular economy and the waste legislative framework or the F-Gas Regulation, Retradeables supports and leads EU companies to recover, recycle, regenerate and reuse F-gases. Due to the gradual reduction of F-gases and their reduction, their circular use plays a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of HVAC-R.

Reusing used F-gases reduces carbon emissions and illegal releases of F-gases into the atmosphere.

Recover, Reclaim & Re-use

The LIFE3R project was funded by the European Union's LIFE program. The Retradeables consortium consists of experts from various EU Member States - including Daikin Airconditioning Central Europe HandelsgmbH, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the Society for Materials and Energy Applications (MAT4NRG GmbH). The official launch of the platform included presentations by all members of the consortium and a presentation of the online business marketplace and explained how the platform works. The recovered F-gas is sold on the platform and, after recycling or regeneration, is returned to the market for further use according to market standards.

"Reusing existing F-gas supplies is a necessary next step for the Czech HVAC-R market as we strive to balance the increasing pressure of supply and demand. Circular economy Retradeables captures used F-gases on the market, allowing them to be reused. The platform brings cooperation, is transparent, and by recognizing used refrigerants as a valuable resource, it offers them at live market prices. We are excited to be able to pilot Retradeables in the Czech Republic, because we believe that the platform is a basic tool for the transition to carbon neutrality by 2050," said Josef Brož, CEO of Daikin ČR.

The Czech Republic is the second country to use the used F-gas management tools offered by the Retradeables platform. Six Czech installation companies took part in it and partnership agreements were made with several leading distributors.

About Retradeables

Retradeables is the first online marketplace for used F-gases. The platform was established to support global demand and achieve a carbon-neutral and circular economy. It thus offers a responsible alternative to a sustainable source of F-gases.

On the online Retradeables platform, which connects all refrigerant operators, the parties concerned can trade in their own used F-gas and then recycle or reclaim it. The platform provides a sustainable solution for the company, which offers the opportunity to expand its existing reserves with used F-gases. These are then recycled or regenerated to their original industry standard so that they can replace the supply of raw gas, whose reserves are limited.

Retradeables is based on the LIFE3R project, which is funded by the European Union's LIFE program under the LIFE19 grant agreement CCM / AT 001226 - LIFE3R. The EU provides funding for a wide range of projects and programs covering areas such as regional and urban development, employment and social inclusion, agriculture and rural development, as well as education, health, consumer protection, environmental protection and humanitarian aid.
